Practical Advice for Central Florida Moves

Packing for Florida Heat and Humidity

A truck parked in the Central Florida sun gets hot fast, and heat is the thing most people forget to pack around. Candles soften, vinyl records warp, and anything wax based or pressed will not survive a long afternoon in a closed trailer. Electronics and medication belong in the air conditioned car with you, not in the load. If you have art, musical instruments or anything with glue joints, say so before moving day so the crew can plan where it rides.

Humidity is the slower problem. Cardboard soaks up moisture and a box that felt solid in the house can sag by the time it reaches a garage floor, so keep boxes off bare concrete and use plastic bins for anything going into unconditioned storage. Leather, upholstery and stored linens will mildew in a hot garage over a few weeks, and that damage is quiet until you unpack. If your things are going into storage for more than a few days, climate controlled is worth the difference.

From June through September the afternoon storm is close to a daily event. Pack anything that cannot get wet in sealed bins rather than cardboard, keep a few contractor bags near the door for a fast cover, and expect a good crew to stage boxes inside rather than lining them up on the driveway. Our packing services exist partly for this reason, materials that hold up in Florida are not the same as materials that hold up in a dry climate.

What to Carry Yourself, and What Movers Cannot Take

Keep one bag with you that never goes on the truck. Passports, birth certificates, closing documents, prescriptions, jewelry, laptops, chargers, phone cables and every set of keys. Add a first night box with sheets, towels, toilet paper, soap, a shower curtain and whatever makes coffee happen in the morning. Unpacking is easier when you are not searching six boxes for the thing you needed at 10pm.

There is also a list no moving company is allowed to load. Propane tanks, gasoline and the fuel in your mower or generator, charcoal lighter fluid, paint and paint thinner, aerosols, pool chemicals, fertilizer, fireworks and car batteries all stay behind. This is not a preference, it is a safety rule that applies to every licensed mover in Florida. Drain fuel from lawn equipment a day or two ahead so it has time to air out, and plan a trip to your county household hazardous waste drop off for the rest.

Houseplants are worth deciding early. They tolerate a short local hop, but a closed truck on a long haul is a hard ride and many will not make it. On a long distance move the plants usually travel in your own vehicle or find a new home with a neighbor.

Booking and Timing Around the Central Florida Calendar

Moving demand is not spread evenly. The last weekend of the month, the first few days of the next one and every Saturday in summer are the busiest slots there are, because leases and closings cluster there. If your dates are flexible, a midweek move in the middle of the month is easier to book and the whole day tends to run calmer. If your dates are not flexible, book early rather than well, that slot is the one everyone else wants too.

Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30 and it deserves a little slack in the plan rather than worry. Keep important documents and a few days of essentials with you instead of buried in the load, and if a named storm is tracking toward Central Florida, talk to us about the dates before the week arrives rather than the morning of.

Start times matter more here than people expect. Crews that begin early get the heavy outdoor work done before the heat peaks and before the afternoon storm rolls through, which is why a 7am or 8am start beats a noon one on almost every summer day. If you are moving into a condo or an apartment, call the building now and ask two questions: what hours the elevator can be reserved, and whether they need a certificate of insurance from your mover. Buildings around Winter Park, downtown Orlando and Altamonte Springs commonly ask for both, and a COI takes us a phone call when we know in advance and holds up your whole morning when we do not.

What Actually Makes Moving Day Go Fast

Label boxes by the room they are going to, not by what is inside them. The crew is reading labels at walking speed with a box in their arms, and Kitchen written large on the top and one side moves the box to the right place the first time. Numbered inventory systems look organized and slow everything down. Save the detail for the few boxes you will want to find first.

Clear the path before the truck arrives. Pull the cars out of the driveway, prop or remove doors that swing into a hallway, roll up loose rugs and get anything breakable off the route between the front door and the rooms. If you have a narrow street, an alley or a shared parking area, tell us when you book so we can plan the truck position rather than solve it in the moment.

Beds, table legs and anything wall mounted come apart faster with the right tools, and our crews carry them, but if you would rather handle disassembly yourself do it the night before rather than the morning of. Keep the hardware in a labeled bag taped to the piece it belongs to.

Pets and small kids do better somewhere else for the loading hours. Doors stay open the whole time and that is when animals go exploring. Then finish the day properly: walk every room, open every closet, check the garage and the attic access, and look behind doors before the truck pulls away. Most of what gets left behind is in a closet nobody opened. 4.9from over 700 Google reviews of Orlando Moving Company

We have an art studio with glass display cases and more. They were very communicative before, during and after, prompt, friendly and professional. The price was very reasonable and they didn’t do all kinds of tricky add-ons and surprise fees.

They showed up on time, worked unbelievably fast, handled everything with care, and were respectful and professional the entire day. Moving is stressful, but they somehow made it fun. They were friendly, had a great attitude, laughed with us, and never once complained, even with all the chaos that comes with moving.

From start to finish, Jerome and Daishawn demonstrated punctuality and professionalism. They arrived right on time, ready to work, and handled every aspect of the move with care and precision. What truly stood out was their friendliness and understanding throughout the process. Moving can be stressful, but they made it feel effortless.
