Property managers usually ask for a certificate of insurance naming the building, a reserved freight elevator and a loading dock time, and some only allow moves outside business hours. One of our recent customers runs an art studio with glass display cases, and the crew took every glass shelf out and wrapped each one on its own before the cases were lifted. Electronics and files are where commercial moves get expensive when they go wrong. Back up and shut down computers before the crew arrives, and bag the cables with the machine they belong to. Records with sensitive information, like payroll files, patient charts or client documents, should stay in locked cabinets, or be moved by your own staff if your compliance rules call for it.
Know the liability floor too. Florida law doesn’t let a mover limit liability below 60 cents per pound per article, which won’t come close to the value of a server or a display case, so check what your estimate covers and what your business insurance picks up.
