You tell us where you’re moving from and to, how big the place is, and what makes it tricky: a second-floor walk-up, a piano, a condo with an elevator you have to reserve.
Florida law requires a written, itemized estimate and a signed contract before any moving work starts, so you see what the loading, transport and unloading cost on paper before moving day. On the day itself the crew protects floors and door frames, pads the furniture, takes apart what needs taking apart and puts it back together at the new place. Boxes go to the rooms they’re labeled for, not into a pile in the garage.
Orlando Homes Come With Their Own Logistics
A move out of a Winter Park bungalow and a move out of a downtown high-rise are different jobs. Condo and apartment buildings often want a reserved freight elevator, a certificate of insurance and a set move window. Gated communities need names on the gate list. HOAs in towns like Celebration decide when a truck can be on the street. Missing one of those can push a move by a day, so they’re worth sorting out before the date is locked.
Then there’s the weather. From June through September, Central Florida gets an afternoon thunderstorm most days. Morning start times are the ones to grab in summer, and upholstered furniture should never sit uncovered between the front door and the truck.
Apartments, Family Homes, and Moving a Parent
The size of the home decides the plan. A one-bedroom apartment and a four-bedroom house with a garage full of tools are very different days, and the estimate should reflect that instead of guessing.
Some moves need patience more than muscle. What's Covered if Something Gets Damaged
Careful crews still work with heavy, awkward things, so it’s worth knowing the rules before you move. Under Florida law a mover can’t limit its liability for loss or damage below 60 cents per pound per article. That’s a floor, and it’s low: a 50-pound TV works out to $30. If you own things worth more than that math, ask what coverage your estimate includes and check whether your homeowner’s or renter’s policy covers belongings in transit.
Florida also requires registered movers to carry at least $10,000 per shipment in liability coverage for household goods. Orlando Moving Company is registered with the state as Fla. IM No. 4143. Home Moving Questions
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most local moves. The end of the month, weekends and summer fill up first, because that’s when leases turn over and school is out. Someone who can make decisions should be at the pickup and at the delivery, to show the crew what goes and what stays, sign the paperwork, and walk the house before the truck leaves. It doesn’t have to be the same person the whole day, but the crew needs one person to ask.
Hazardous materials like propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinner, pool chemicals and fireworks can’t be loaded. Keep medications, important documents, jewelry and anything irreplaceable with you in the car. Florida law says a mover can never refuse to hand over prescription medicines or goods needed for children, but the simplest version of that rule is keeping them in your hands.
