Sanford’s historic district is genuinely old by Florida standards, and it moves like it. Brick streets, homes built in the early 1900s, deep front porches and almost no off street parking on some blocks.
A crew used to modern subdivisions tends to underestimate how long it takes to walk furniture out to a truck parked half a block away. Down by Lake Monroe and the Riverwalk you get a different mix again, with newer waterfront properties and downtown apartments above the shops on First Street. We work all of it, and the plan we build depends on which Sanford you are actually moving in or out of.
Old Houses, Narrow Stairs, and Floors Worth Protecting
Historic homes ask for a slower, more careful kind of work. Original heart pine floors scratch easily and cannot be sanded forever, staircases are steeper and narrower than modern code allows, and door frames were built for furniture that no longer exists.
So we measure first, protect the floors and door jambs properly, and take large pieces apart rather than testing whether they will fit. Older buildings also tend to have their own quirks, from porch steps that will not take a heavy dolly to interior doors that swing the wrong way at the worst moment. None of it is a problem when it is planned for, and all of it is a problem when it is not.
Downtown Parking, Golf Carts, and Loading on First Street
Downtown Sanford was laid out long before anyone imagined a twenty six foot truck. Street parking is limited, the blocks around First Street get busy in the evenings and on event weekends, and the downtown golf cart traffic is a real thing rather than a novelty.
We plan the loading spot in advance and, where a full size truck simply does not belong, use a smaller vehicle for the final stretch. For apartments and lofts above the shops, we check stair access and any building rules before the day, because carrying a sofa up an unexpected second flight is not something anyone wants to find out about at eight in the morning.
Airport Runs, Long Distance, and Timing Around I-4
Sanford sits at a useful crossroads, with the 417, I-4 and 17-92 all within reach and the airport right there, which makes it a common landing point for people relocating into Central Florida from out of state. Timing still matters. I-4 through this stretch has hours that are simply not worth driving, so we schedule around them. In summer we load in the mornings where we can, because an afternoon storm and a brick street with no driveway make for a slow finish.
Sanford connects easily to Lake Mary just west and Oviedo to the south, so local moves in either direction are straightforward. With the airport right here, we also handle a steady amount of long distance moving in and out of the area.
